Educational-Psychological Assessments

Educational-Psychological Assessments are used to get a thorough understanding of the child’s academic and cognitive abilities and to identify any deficits that may exist between academic performance and ability. This may include measuring intelligence, academic level and ability, cognitive processing, and memory; identifying behavioral and social emotional problems; and reviewing classroom performance and social interactions.

The assessment is performed using a number of formal and informal tools depending on the presenting information.  Included in an assessment may be observations of the child, informal discussions with family and teachers, standardized assessment tests, behavioral scales, review of previous records, and other tools as needed.  Each case is different so the exact assessment performed and tools used vary from child to child.

At SEC, our assessments are conducted by an Educational Psychologist who is licensed in the United States.  All assessments performed by Special Education Consulting, Shanghai follow the U.S. Federal laws and guidelines, and meet or exceed the requirements for all public, non-public and private schools in most countries.  Therefore, any assessment report submitted by this office will support continued educational services, if identified, should the family return to their home, or move to another international location.
